Austin City Limits 2

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - Dumas, TX to Monument, CO

After a great night's sleep, we both were up by 6:30. The sun was just coming up at 7:45 as we packed the car. It was only 52 degrees and very dry here in the North Texas Panhandle at Dumas.

Driving west on US-87 we passed fields of corn, hay and more cotton; all absolutely flat! We also saw many large hawks perched on the utility poles waiting for breakfast!

We left Texas at 9:00, just west of Texline and entered New Mexico and went back to Mountain Time gaining an hour, now back to 8:00. The weather was still cool, about 51 degrees with a brisk wind.

There were miles of construction on US-87 through the Northeastern corner of New Mexico. The short grasslands and rolling hills were grazing pastures for cattle and numerous herds of antelope.

We reached I-25 at Raton Pass at 9:30 and got gas. At 9:50 we crossed back into Colorado - only 163 more miles to our exit in Monument.

The drive back on the interstate was easy, not too much traffic until we reached Colorado Springs. We could not help but notice the cool crisp air and the many shades of green we are used to seeing along Palmer Divide.

It was great to arrive home safely at 12:15, just in time to start the laundry and read a gazillion e-mail messages.

Garciatrips.com version 2 will be implemented in the very near future. Our son has just finished writing the code and updating it so it will be faster and easier to use. If you encounter any problems in the transition, please give it a little time and then let me know.
